Milk is a common ingredient in a number of desserts and drinks. Whether it is our favourite winter desi treat of gajar ka halwa or just the daily essential cup of cappuccino, milk is an important ingredient that finds extensive use in our kitchens. The creamy taste of milk is what makes it such a hot favourite for use in desserts and drinks, alike. There is a variety of milk that is preferred for use in a number of confections that require the finished product to taste thick and creamy, and that variety is the condensed milk, which is nothing but reduced thickened milk. Condensed milk is available in cans and is usually sweetened. Unsweetened condensed milk is also known as evaporated milk.
Sweetened condensed milk is used in barfis, halwas, cakes, brownies and cupcakes and even homemade ice-creams and kulfis, and is hence, an essential ingredient for those who love preparing desserts. You can also add it to desserts and can use it as a topping for pancakes, French toast etc. Condensed milk is readily available in stores, but for those times when you are craving some sweet but don't have a can of condensed milk lying in your refrigerator, you can simply prepare it using everyday kitchen ingredients.
